No, I liked everything: Baba O'Reilly/Tomorrow Never Knows, Blackbird, Hey Jude (Pig & Brent), Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, and anything else they covered by The Beatles or The Rolling Stones, Donna's singing, Phil's singing, Vince's singing and playing (not to mention Samba in the Rain and Way to Go Home) I Fought The Law, Werewolves of London, Day Job, Corrina, Eternity, Easy Answers, Victim or the Crime, Wave to the Wind, Broken Arrow, Childhood's End, If the Shoe Fits, Weir forgetting the words to Truckin, long noisy feedback jams, ill-advised notes in Jerry's solos, and Weir's jokes.

Okay, I was a little disappointed when they would play Saint of Circumstance without Lost Sailor.

But that's as far as I'll go.

Now, excuse me while I go put on my vinyl copy of Aoxomoxoa and play What's Become Of The Baby at 78 speed and crank the volume to 11.

May be stepping in out of turn, but although I am sympathetic to the notion that many posts with headings like this one might seem overtly negative, I take more in the spirit of '______ that you didn't like about the Dead' as a starting point for discussion of likes and dislikes. In this case, it is clear that C Freedom loves the Dead, loves covers, but wonders about the choices the boys made over the years since some didn't work for him (or me, or others that pick up the thread here). I think Fishead responded in defending the right to ask such questions without fear of attack for simply presenting a less than positive take on all things Dead...

Okay, William, very politic of you, and I commend your effort to extend an olive branch. I still stand my original statement, though, because I find it to be really weird that so much commentary gets bandied about here focusing on dissatisfaction with The Grateful Dead. I find it to be ironically inordinate, considering that I interpreted this to be a place where fans gather to share positive thoughts and experiences about the band. And if you want to defend Fishead for calling me a Drama Queen, well, I guess I'll just have to try to figure that one out for myself.

My bad...didn't mean to do that for a moment, but I suppose I slipped up since I was trying to defend the initial post, etc.

You're right--no need for such language, but I took it to be a reference to the language used in your post and perhaps (I know, a stretch), not to you personally.

PS: I do see this as a place where we share the good and the bad...

Yeah, I forgot to acknowledge that I had gotten pretty feisty my damned self. If I can't stand the heat, right?

Well having a negative opinion on SOME things isn't the same as bashing. If we thought everything they did was perfect then that would make us sheep.

Hey Brian - There's this new saying going around...."take the good w/ the bad".

"There is good and bad in every one
we learn to live
we learn to give eachother
what we need to survive
together alive oh
Ebony...." McCartney & WONDER!

"You are black and I am white
you are blind as a bat
but, I have sight
side by side my amigo
we go
let's not fight" Piscopo & Murphy

"Blackbird" is bar none the most hideous, cringe-inducing cover I ever heard the Dead do.

In fact, I never understood why the Dead attenpted any cover of a Beatles tune when the Beatles were one the best bands in history, if not THE best, when it came to pitch-perfect harmonies and clear as a bell vocals.

Dylan I can understand, and tunes like Baby Blue and Visoions of Johanna were fine for Jerry (as long as he could remember the words) but hearing Phil, Bobby and/or Jerry on tunes like "Lucy in the Sky", "Revolution", etc., was just brutal. Bad, bad idea all around.
